ForestWatch is a forest fire detection and decision support system that is continuously field tested in actual South African operations. In addition, feedback from installations around the world is used to enhance the product and its detection capabilities.
Individual cameras covering 25 000 ha each can link wirelessly to an operations center. Smart embedded systems at the camera towers cut down on the required bandwidth, provide image stabilization and enhanced picture quality.
ForestWatch provides automated detection which can be fine-tuned for a range of conditions including night detection. Automated detection means operators can focus more of their attention on fewer events. EVS is always working to improve the advanced detection algorithms to ensure that ForestWatch detection is always state of the art.
The ForestWatch operator has a number of powerful tools at their disposal to assist in the identification of fires and management of existing fires. The most useful of these is the powerful georeferencing system within ForestWatch. With the click of a mouse, fires are accurately positioned on a map of the area.
For managers, ForestWatch provides a number of tools to improve operations. Archive footage can be used for post mortem analysis of fire events, and performance monitoring is available to determine the reliability of the camera system.
